18th Birthday Party Ideas

Your Birthday Party Theme Should Reflect Your Personality

Everything about your eighteenth birthday party should reflect who you are or what you want to achieve in your life. For smaller children, themes for birthdays seem to be much easier to decide. Little boys love the trucks, airplanes, and various cartoon type characters that fill the television screen. Little girls are dressed as princesses, tinker bell type fairy’s and have lots of girly themes. Granted, these are rather simplistic in general, but work very well for young children.

As one ages, the themes may get a bit more complicated. Themes tend to go into a more grown up direction. Well, what happens when you do become an adult? Tinkerbell and Spiderman just do not do the trick anymore.

Depending on what your personal tastes and personality is, you may want to consider a surfers theme or maybe one designed around your favorite sport. A “Hawaiian” theme can be complete with a luau or grass skirts for the guests to wear during the party. Have you considered a the possibility of an “evening under the stars?” This can be achieved any time of the year. In the summertime, you can have an outdoor gathering, with low lights, twinkling lights and soft ambiance. In the winter, having the decorations done in silvers and light blues, your winter-wonderland can have the same lighting effects to make everything soft yet glittery and magical.

Every birthday party will begin with two things, the budget and the guest list. Most people think the guest list will determine the budget, however in reality it is the other way around. What you plan to spend will determine just how many guests there will be, what the formality or casualness of your special day will be. Not long ago, a young woman wanted to go on a cruise around the world for her birthday. Being young and without the financial resources to do such a thing, her friends planned for her a birthday party that was “themed” as the world tour cruise she wanted to take. Each area of the room was decorated around one of the stops that she would have taken had she been able to go on her cruise.

Needless to say, it was one of the most memorable days of her young life. Your 18th birthday party is the time when you transition from your childhood days to those of an adult. This signifies a time when you take on more responsibility and embark on a new period of your life. One way to do this is to have an official “key” ceremony. In this small but largely symbolic ceremony, your parent’s give you the keys to their home. This is an indication that you can now come and go as you please, no more bothersome curfews or gaining permission to do things that once required parental permission.

Regardless of what theme you choose to signify this special time in your life, it should reflect your personality. It is a time to celebrate and have a great time. Enjoy yourself and have a very happy and safe birthday!
